Before we leave spectacles and get a move on to parades, we need to talk about the best thing to do to prepare for viewing a spectacle: taking a nap.

Look, naps are great. I don’t need to convince you of that.

But in the hustle and bustle of a day in the Parks, it can be easy to overlook how much (read: how little) capacity we have left to deal with anything out of the normal course of our lives. Or, come to think of it, anything within the normal course of our lives. So, because the spectacles are inconveniently held really late at night and we want to enjoy them, we should probably make a plan to have the capacity to do so.

Adrenaline and sugar will only get you so far.

Though to be fair, it is pretty far.

Now, if you are only in the Parks for a day or two and are intending to simply power through these days riding the crest of adrenaline and sugar, then more power to you.

Just be sure to remember you will need to recover from this later! But if you or your loved ones can’t do that (and to be sure, our family can’t – many neurodivergent people can’t actually), then we need to consider other options. And one of those options is a nap.

Or, if napping renders you physically incapable of sleeping during your normal sleeping hours (which it does with my wife), then simply resting for a few hours during the day, preferably doing something that fills your bucket, is a prudent course to follow. Alternatively, as we talked about near the beginning (which probably feels like it was an age of the earth ago), you could instead choose to start your trip to the Parks later in the day, preserving some of your capacity until the spectacles are done.

Napping in the middle of the Parks is probably frowned upon. While I could probably nap in the parks, I’ve never tried. I’d probably be a fire hazard or some such thing. Instead, this is another factor to consider in your decision whether or not to stay at a hotel within walking distance of the Parks. Unless you’re three years old and have a large human to carry you around while you slumber. In which case, slumber away, my friend.
